This provides some level of security to prevent unauthorized people from accessing the app. It doesn\u2019t encrypt data or any other changes, it\u2019s just a simple access control.<\/p>\n<p>By default, a password is not required. If you want to require one, open up the <strong>General Settings<\/strong>. Notice the <strong>Choose Password\u2026<\/strong> button and the text to the left indicating that a password hasn\u2019t been set:<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Password not required\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dejal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/prefs-not-req.png?resize=674%2C246&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Password not required\" width=\"674\" height=\"246\" border=\"0\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Click the button to display the password sheet. If a password hasn\u2019t already been set, the first field will be disabled (and display \u201cNone\u201d). If one has been set, enter the existing password there. The next two fields are for the new password; enter the same one in both, or leave them both blank to disable the password feature. If entering a password, you should also enter a hint that will remind you of the password (without being too obvious):<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Password sheet\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dejal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/prefs-password-1.png?resize=667%2C422&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Password sheet\" width=\"667\" height=\"422\" border=\"0\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>After setting a password, the text in the <strong>Settings<\/strong> window will change to indicate so:<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Password required\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dejal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/prefs-req.png?resize=677%2C240&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Password required\" width=\"677\" height=\"240\" border=\"0\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>When a password has been set, whenever you activate Simon it will display an unlock sheet, asking for the password. It includes a <strong>Quit<\/strong> button to quickly stop Simon, and a <strong>Cancel<\/strong> to deactivate Simon. After two failed attempts, it will display the password hint (if any); after two more failed attempts, it\u2019ll disallow further attempts until after you quit or cancel:<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Unlock\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dejal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/unlock.png?resize=560%2C304&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Unlock\" width=\"560\" height=\"304\" border=\"0\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>I expect that most people won\u2019t need this feature, but for those who do, it should prove quite useful.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Simon includes a password feature, that can be used to require a password when Simon is launched or activated.
