Time Out is very flexible, so I was able to come up with a solution for them, using Automator workflows as <strong>Break Actions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I created three workflows, that you can download from the <strong>Script Actions<\/strong> section of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dejal.com\/timeout\/extras\/#scripts\">Time Out Extras page<\/a>. Here are direct download links for your convenience:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/dejal.com\/timeout\/extras\/scripts\/ds-volume-25.zip\">Volume 25%<\/a> \u2014 sets the Mac system volume to quarter level<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/dejal.com\/timeout\/extras\/scripts\/ds-volume-50.zip\">Volume 50%<\/a> \u2014 sets the volume to halfway<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/dejal.com\/timeout\/extras\/scripts\/ds-volume-muted.zip\">Volume Muted<\/a> \u2014 mutes the sound<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can of course edit these in Apple\u2019s Automator app to choose different volume levels.<\/p>\n<p>To install them, choose <strong>Reveal Scripts<\/strong> from the <strong>+<\/strong> menu on the <strong>Break Actions<\/strong> page in Time Out:<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Reveal Scripts\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dejal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Reveal-Scripts.png?resize=686%2C660&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Reveal Scripts\" width=\"686\" height=\"660\" border=\"0\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>Then decompress those actions and add to the revealed folder in the Finder. They will then appear in that menu so you can use them with a break.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a fancy example, where Time Out will flash the screen 10 seconds before a break is due, play a bell sound 5 seconds before the break is due, mute the volume once the break fades in, set the sound volume back to 25% level once the break ends (whether done, postponed, or skipped), and finally play a different bell sound 1 second after it is done (but won\u2019t play if postponed or skipped):<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Volume actions\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dejal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Volume-actions.png?resize=585%2C607&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Volume actions\" width=\"585\" height=\"607\" border=\"0\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>I hope you find this helpful.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A customer said that they play music via YouTube, and wanted to silence it during their breaks.
